At Fair Price Shop (FPS) No. 4 in Jallimedu, 28 sacks of PDS rice were diverted to a private hostel, while beneficiaries were told there was no stock. HRD Muni Kumar exposed the malpractice with video evidence, leading to suspension of the salesman. In Kabilar, 1,100 ration cardholders were denied dhotis during Pongal, despite being forced to sign acknowledgments. After Kumar launched a signature campaign, a retaliatory FIR (No. 42/2025) with fabricated charges was filed against him. He was arrested, coerced into signing documents, and remanded for 25 days before conditional bail. The case is pending before the Additional Mahila Court, Tiruvallur. HRDA condemns the targeting of Kumar as reprisal for exposing corruption in the PDS system. We urge the Hon’ble Commission to immediately intervene and to immediately take necessary steps:
- Direct the Inspector General of Police, North Zone, Chennai be directed to initiate a transparent, independent inquiry and submit the report to SHRC within two weeks.
