HRDA has issued an urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission of India on February 14, 2020 regarding the offloading of Mr. Neingulo Krome from a flight in Kolkata, and restrictions on his free movement. Mr.  Krome is a Naga civil society leader and human rights defender.
On February 5, 2020, Mr. Krome was offloaded from a Kolkata to Bangkok flight on the ‘orders of the government’. Immigration authorities at the Kolkata airport informed him that as per the order, he was not allowed to travel abroad, but he was not given any additional clarification or official documents regarding the same.

Mr. Krome’s offloading can be seen as part of a larger clampdown on civil society leaders in Nagaland amidst the non-committal stance of the Government of India on the ceasefire and framework agreement with the Naga people. Violation of travel rights amounts to targeted harassment and intimidation.
