On May 2, 2023, at 5:15 AM, 4-5 police personnel, accompanied by civilian-clothed individuals, arrived at activist Mr. Anil Hansda's Lalpaniya residence in Jharkhand without a house search notice. His house was searched for four hours, and electronic devices were seized without providing hash values. His wife was interrogated for 8 hours. Two days later, Mr. Hansda was asked to meet NIA officials regarding a case under IPC and UAPA sections. The incident raises concerns of targeted harassment against HRDs in Jharkhand, violating their rights to life, liberty, and freedom of speech.
