HRDA has issued an urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission of India on May 6, 2020 regarding a fabricated case against Right to Information Act (RTI) activist Mr. Pawan Malviya.

An FIR was registered against Mr. Malviya at the Ganj Police Station under Sections 188, 353, 465 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Section 52 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. Whereas Mr. Malviya shared newspaper clippings regarding distribution of relief material to the poor by government authorities, he was accused of spreading fake news and providing the addresses of public authorities. He was booked in a false case under Section 353 of IPC earlier too due to his RTI activism; in both cases, he was not given any arrest notice.
