Ms. Uzma Parveen (28) is a social activist of Lucknow working on rights of women and minorities. On March 27, 2023, Ms. Uzma Parveen posted a photo of her offering prayers in front of Lucknow Assembly on Twitter. Subsequently, an FIR was filed against her on March 29, 2023, by Sub-Inspector Sagar Khurana, citing various charges, including wantonly giving provocation and computer-related offences. WHRD denies any intent to cause controversy, emphasising her right to freedom of worship. The Deputy Commissioner of Police alleges misleading information and registers charges under IPC sections and the IT Act.

HRDA condemns the registration of FIR based on fabricated charged, this action amount to act of reprisal against the WHRD. HRDA appeals to NHRC to initiate a transparent investigation and provide protection for WHRD and her family.
