Delhi Police Accused of Illegal Detention and Torture of Students, Activists

On July 9, 2025, three students of Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch were allegedly detained by Delhi Police, followed by the detention of activists from the Forum Against Corporatization and Militarization and social activist Samrat Singh on July 11. They were reportedly held at New Friends Colony police station, subjected to threats, torture, and sexual assault. One detainee, Ehtmam Ul-Haque, faced electrocution, while Baadal was released only after her father signed a coercive undertaking barring her from Delhi or political activity. The group was freed on July 18 after signing restrictive papers. Rights groups say the detentions violate multiple Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including freedom from torture and arbitrary detention. we urge the Hon’ble Commission to immediately intervene and:

  • Direct the investigation division of the NHRC to immediately enquire into the facts of this case and submit a report before the commission within a week after verifying the CCTV footages available in the Police Station.
