Sendu Munda is a Environmental Human Rights Defender actively engages in forest rights and conservation. The police arrested the EHRD on May 4, 2023 and remanded him in Latehar jail. Sendhu Munda was beaten up from 5 am to 9 am by lathis and was beaten at least 300 times with lathis. Due to the brutal beating he died within the prison. On may 6, 2023 this family member were asked to identify the dead body of the EHRD.

An FIR under section 304/34 of IPC was registered in FIR no 97 of 2023 against the death of EHRD. The Perpetrators of the crime are:-

• The doctors on duty at Latehar Mandal Jail
• Latehar Divisional Jail Superintendent Mr. Mensen Barwa

HRDA appeals the NHRC to initiate urgent action by a independent and impartial investigation into the brutal torture and murder of the EHRD. HRDA called for suspension of the police officials involved in the torture and compensation to the family of EHRD.
