Brutal assault on peaceful protestors in Haryana and negligence of Haryana police in filing an FIR.

A brutal attack in Faridabad, Haryana on peaceful protestors by a group of young men, allegedly associated with the RSS, during a street corner meeting. The victims, members of civil society organizations, were protesting against sexual violence in Manipur. The attackers used iron rods, lathes, and other weapons, resulting in serious injuries to several participants.

Despite filing a complaint, the police in Sanjay Colony Sector 23, Faridabad, reportedly neglected to register an FIR promptly. The victims underwent medical examinations, but the police refused to file the FIR even after the necessary procedures were completed.

This violates Article 19 (1) (b) of the Indian Constitution that guarantees the right to peacefully assemble and A peaceful assembly is protected under the Article 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which is also violated.

HRDA urges the NHRC to direct the Director General of Police of Haryana to file an FIR, submit a report on police negligence, include appropriate charges in the FIR, take action against negligent policemen, and ensure the protection of Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) and their families.
