On the night of April 7–8, 2025, unknown miscreants attempted to set the house of journalist Md Faqar Uddin on fire in Damcherra, Tripura, while he and his family were inside. His daughter was able to stop the fire and save the family. Md Faqar Uddin, a correspondent for Pratibadi Kalam, is known for reporting on drug-related crimes in North Tripura and had previously received threats and harassment due to his reporting.

The Human Rights Defenders Alert (HRDA) is seeking the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take suo moto cognizance of this attack under Section 12(a) of the Protection of Human Rights (Amendment) Act, 2019. HRDA requests the NHRC to initiate an independent inquiry through its investigation wing, provide immediate protection to the journalist and his family, and ensure impartial intervention to protect their rights and safety.​
