Advocate Hansraj Kabir, a human rights defender working for the rights of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Rajasthan  filed a petition challenging the police closure of the case, which was filed on Mr. Vikas Kalawat, a local political functionary associated with a legislative assembly member, who duped two Dalit sisters of their land rights in March 2022.On January 24, 2023, Dalit HRD Mr. Kabir received calls urging him to return to the court. Upon arrival, he was assaulted by Ms. Manju Devi and others, resulting in injuries and a ruptured eardrum. The HRD has been charged under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntary hurt), section 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of women), and section 384 (extortion).

HRDA India appeals the NHRC to Direct an immediate inquiry by the Director General of Police, Rajasthan, and Ensure complete physical and psychological security for Mr. Kabir and his family, and interim compensation treating this case as reprisal against a human rights defender.
