On May 8, 2025, S. Lora, Assistant Professor at SRM Institute, was suspended after her Instagram post critical of India’s airstrikes went viral on other social media platforms. The post referred to civilian deaths and described the event as “cowardice” and “not justice.” Within hours, the registrar issued an official suspension, citing “unethical activities,” and opened an inquiry. Lora, a faculty member since 2012, faced widespread media scrutiny and became the focus of debate over academic freedom and institutional overreach.
HRDA urges NHRC to take suo moto cognizance under Section 12(a), and demands an independent inquiry through the NHRC investigation wing, asking for fair process and protection of the rights of educators to free expression.
