HRDA has issued an urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission of India on January 13 regarding the house arrest of Dr. Sandeep Pandey in Lucknow on December 19, 2019 by the Uttar Pradesh police. Dr. Pandey is a well-known Gandhian activist and educationist and also a recipient of the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay award.

Police personnel camped in front of Dr. Pandey’s house from 8 AM till 7 PM on December 19, 2019. Dr. Pandey was supposed to participate in an event that day to commemorate the joint martyrdom of Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqullah Khan as a day of Hindu-Muslim unity, and to speak out against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register for Citizenship (NRC).
