Brutal physical assault on Journalist Dinesh Jangid by alleged sand mining mafia

HRDA has issued an urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission of India on March 24, 2020 the brutal assault on Mr. Dinesh Jangid by the sand mafia in Ajmer, Rajasthan. Mr. Jangid is a journalist with over 20 years’ experience in reporting on various issues, including the sand mafia, and currently works with Hindi daily Navjyoti

On February 18, 2020, Mr. Jangid was waylaid by a mob of 15-20 people while on the way to a protest by villagers against illegal sand miners. The mob attacked him brutally with iron roads and lathis, leaving him with severe injuries. He was later admitted to the government hospital, and the incident was reported to the police. Though the perpetrators were identified, only one person was arrested while others remain absconding.
