HRDA has issued an urgent appeal to the National Human Rights Commission of India on 4 June 2019 regarding the criminal assault and attempt on the life of Mr. Krishnapal for using Right to Information Act (RTI) to expose land grabbing by the land mafia.
On 14 May 2019, Mr. Krishanpal had gone to his fields for irrigation purposes located in Shahpur locality (Kasba) in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. When Mr. Krishnapal reached there, the accused fired with a gun at the activist with the intention to kill him. He received three gunshots in his hands leading to severe injuries. Mr. Krishnapal was rushed to Meerut hospital in serious condition for treatment. Mr. Krishnapal’s wife filed an FIR in the name of five persons Babu Ram s/o Kali Ram, Dinesh s/o Prahalad, Rajeev s/o Beersen, resident of Manglapuri, Shahpur, Vijay Kumar s/o Manmohan and Ajay Kumar s/o Manmohan, resident of Niwasigan, Shahpur including two unnamed persons. A case has been filed in Ditavi police station, district Muzaffarnagar against the accused under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Mr. Krishanpal has filed an RTI and complaint with the administration related to the unauthorised occupation of the land by the accused in Shahpur area.
HRDA prayed for immediate and thorough investigation and immediate action on the perpetrators who have acted in an unlawful manner, on behalf of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
